"Seeing
as how Los Angeles had just witnessed the largest demonstrations
in its history, when up to 2 million immigrants took to
the streets of downtown L.A. on May 1st to rally for immigrant's
rights; I decided a painting of an immigrant worker would
be an appropriate creation for the At Work exhibit.
My
painting depicts a women participating in a labor rally.
The action itself is left ambiguous, it could be anything
from a striking union’s picket line to a march expressing
unity with worker’s demands. However, one thing is made
clear by my painting, the new face of labor in California
is female and non-white, and this reality has infused the
modern-day labor movement with new energy and leadership."
