Vallen 2004
Oil on canvas 21' x 32 1/2'
Los
Angeles has one of the largest Japanese communities outside of
Japan. Every year the Japanese Americans in LA's Little Tokyo
area hold an O-Bon Festival, the traditional observance celebrating
and honoring deceased ancestors.
During
the city's O-Bon festivities, hundreds participate in performing
Japanese folk dance. The artist's painting portrays one such dancer.
Vallen's
painting was created on canvas mounted on wood. If
