Come back to haunt you [ SLASH Magazine cover ]
Mark Vallen
Giclée print 10 x 14 inches

This is the cover art Vallen did for the very last issue of SLASH Magazine in 1980. The Giclée print being offered is the black & white drawing only... not the full SLASH cover (shown below). Printed in a limited edition of only 150 prints, Vallen hand-signed and numbered each one. The image is printed on high quality Arches white paper, with a white border left around the artwork.

The drawing, titled Come back to haunt you, was a visual proclamation that the spirits of the Native American warriors of the North American continent had come back to possess the youthful punk rebels of the US. The mohawked and leather clad fellow in the drawing represented those spirits. SLASH, founded in 1977 and ever on the cutting edge, was the first US publication to promulgate the punk explosion.

The magazine introduced an unsuspecting public to the likes of the Sex Pistols, Clash, Siouxsie and the Banshees and other hitherto unknown bands. L.A.'s own backyard was amply covered with reports on X, Germs, Fear, Black Flag, and many others. The last issue of SLASH featured articles on Crass and Adam and the Ants. Vallen's SLASH cover drawing also served as a rebel fashion exclusive. He doesn't take full credit for this, but soon after his artwork hit the streets, legions of youth in Los Angeles began to sport Mohawk haircuts! Ah! The power of an image!
